Tom is a compassionate Clinical Psychologist with many years of experience in the field. He has completed his Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at the University of Queensland (UQ) and has worked in a number of hospitals, non-profit organisations and private settings. He is accredited in Triple P (Positive Parenting Program) and works with adults, adolescents and children.

Tom uses evidence-based therapeutic models of cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Mindfulness. He has completed his 3 year Intensive Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy (ISTDP) core training and currently completing advanced training in Affect State Therapy (AST), which is a modified version of ISTDP.

AST is a short term dynamic psychotherapy and is supported by attachment theory, contemporary comprehension of neuropsychology, and how change occurs in psychotherapy. AST was developed by Dr Steve Arthey, Clinical Psychologist (see stevearthey.com).

Tom's main areas of interest include depression, social anxiety, low self confidence, low self-esteem, motivational problems, relationship struggles, anger, self-harm behaviours, addictions, personality disorders and PTSD. Tom is a full member of the Australian Clinical Psychology Association (ACPA).

Tom is committed to improving his practice and outcomes for his clients and therefore, routinely videotapes his session for supervision and quality of care purposes (with client consent).

Tom can also speak Vietnamese.

The standard fee for a 50 minute consultation is $250. You may be eligible to claim Medicare rebates (up to 10 sessions per calendar year) if you provide a copy of your Mental Health Care Plan from your GP or referral letter from your Psychiatrist.

It is your responsibility to ensure you have a valid referral and that you are eligible to claim these rebates. The current Medicare rebate is $141.85. If your issue relates to a work issue, medico-legal or immigration case, the fee will be between $250 to $311 per consultation.
